Galiano Island Wedding | Layla + Evan
When you're destined to be together, the universe has a way of making it happen. Evan spent a semester at St. Andrew’s University in Scotland when he first met Layla, who was doing her full degree. 8 years later, they reconnected at a friend’s wedding and never stopped talking.
They managed a long-distance relationship until they decided to move to Vancouver together.
An Intimate Southern Gulf Island Wedding
Choosing to keep their wedding small and intimate, they invited 25 to 30 of their closest friends and family to celebrate with them. Some travelled from afar, some locally but all of them were there to support and love them as they began their new adventure as Mr and Mrs.
Having planned a few weddings herself, on the vendor side of things, Layla + Evan’s vision for their day was something quite classic, and traditional but not stuffy - like a big house party where everyone can catch up and celebrate with them.
They got ready separately with their family.
They opted to have a first “touch” vs a first look.
They wrote each other letters. Evan wrapped his around her favourite chocolate.
They chose to do a hand-fasting instead of a ring exchange.
We headed out for some photos and a private champagne toast just the two of them, while their guests enjoyed a bevvie, and played for prizes.
Layla + Evan took the time to create personalized place cards.
Evan’s father, Michael, baked the wedding cake. Evan + Layla gifted him a cake knife set by Vera Wang.
Evan’s brother Drew whittled the cake topper.
They included a Ceilidh dance so that they could dance with every guest.
Before the dance party really kicked off, Layla got “kidnapped” and Evan had to correctly answer some questions to “buy” her freedom.
