Lighthouse Park Engagement Photos

Being a port city, Vancouver has some amazing parks right on the ocean, making them ideal for sunset engagement photos. One of the more popular parks is Lighthouse Park, which is where Carolina + Chris decided to go for their engagement session.

About Lighthouse Park In West Vancouver BC

Approximately 75 acres of land located in West Vancouver, BC, Lighthouse Park is made up of mostly rainforest and offers amazing views of Burrard Inlet, the Pacific Ocean and the iconic lighthouse.

A popular location amongst locals thanks to the epic sunset views, this park can get busy during the summer. Shoulder seasons or dry winter days offer less crowds allowing for your engagement session to be a bit more intimate + private.

What To Bring For Your Lighthouse Park Engagement Session

Lighthouse Park trails, though well-marked, are still quite uneven and can be rocky. Hiking shoes or runners that you can quickly change into will help you navigate all the trails and the occasional bushwacking.

Please note, if you do want to wear heels, we can absolutely grab some shots with your killer shoes, but I would recommend bringing a pair of flats that work with your outfit (or a second outfit that work with flats). Some of the views require walking along rocks, and uneven terrain that would not be safe to do in heels.

Capturing The Best Lighthouse Park Engagement Photos

How long

For your Lighthouse Park engagement session, I recommend at least 2 hours.

Due to the size of the park, and the various hidden gems you can find along the way to the ocean-side viewpoints, giving yourself the extra time will help you enjoy an unrush session and have enough time to capture some photos in the forest + by the ocean. It can take up to 25 minutes alone to get from the lighthouse viewpoint back to the parking lot, let’s make sure we’re not pressed for time.

When

Given its location, sunset seems like the most obvious option, but don’t discount sunrise. Although the views are technically in the ‘opposite’ direction, the soft morning light is equally beautiful. It is often also way less crowded and a lot cooler on hot summer days.

Logistics

As of 2024, pay parking is in effect at Lighthouse Park. It currently costs $3.75/hour but please check the parks website for the most up to date parking fees.

The parking lot is quite small and limited so please account for any additional time needed to find parking.

Alternate Parks With The Same Vibes

If the idea of Lighthouse Park at sunset is a bit overwhelming, these parks offer similar vibes that can be a bit less crowded or have slightly easier access to it.
