What Is The Best Month To Get Married

When it comes to choosing when to get married, a few factors come into play. Venue, food, guestlist and even budget can influence when you get married. And of course, let’s not forget Mother Nature tends to play the biggest role when choosing when to get married.

But if you are having a just-us experience, and/or you’d rather prioritize when you married, then this blog is for you!

We’ll cover things to keep in mind when you’re choosing the best month to get married, pros and cons of each season and some quick tips to keep in mind for the best time of day to get married outside.

Choosing The Best Time Of Year To Get Married

Sentimental Date. I have photographed a few couples who have gotten married on the same date as their dating anniversary. If you have a special date that means something to you as a couple, allow that to prioritize when you get married.

Your favourite Season. Although summer is the most common season for weddings, if you don’t like the heat, there’s nothing wrong with choosing a different time of year to get married.

A past bride hated being hot so she had a winter wedding. Other friends have opted for a shoulder season wedding because they love the Fall or the Spring bloom.

Your wedding outfits. If your dream wedding dress has layers upon layers or is a full bodice with boning, and if you’re going with a bespoke 3 piece suit or a black outfit, then super hot temps will have you sweating in 3.5 seconds. The shoulder seasons, with cooler temperatures, might be a more comfortable option.

Crowds. Every city has a tourist season and it’s typically in the summer. Keeping this in mind if your location and/or venue is in a popular location. The Holiday season can also be a low-key busy tourist season. Even if the weather isn’t the greatest, a lot of people are in town to visit family so even winter can be crowded.

Pros + Cons Of Each Season

The more temperate weather of the Pacific Northwest comes with the benefit of giving our little corner of the province 4 distinct seasons.

Summer Weddings

The draw of summer weddings can’t be denied. The weather plays a major factor, the days are long, and the season naturally brings out the party vibes in all of us.

This is also the draw for many tourists and popular locations tend to get crowded early in the day and tend to be like that all day long.

And there’s always the chance you may end up with a smoky view instead of epic mountains.

Spring Weddings

Spring weddings can be colourful and have a naturally exciting feel to them. Everyone is coming out of the winter and ready to connect with close friends and family.

Though flowers are starting to bloom, there is generally a lot of rain that accompanies it. Not a problem though, rain backup plans are a common occurrence for us PNW’ers.

Fall Weddings

The changing of the leaves and cooler temperatures naturally lend themselves to cozy + intimate vibes. While crowds lessen significantly after school starts, the weather becomes a bit more inconsistent and rain backup plans are a must.

Winter Weddings

Winter weddings are the perfect time for that warm 3 piece suit because it helps keep you warm during the chilliest months of the year. Capes, peacoats, puffy jackets, etc help keep you warm the entire time, or just in between photos + your ceremony.

Aside from the holiday weeks in December, locations are generally quieter. The shorter days make it ideal for a daytime/lunch wedding and there’s something magical about exchanging vows surrounded by a snowy winter wonderland.

Best Time Of Day To Get Married Outside

With a little planning and luck, you can easily get married outside all year round, so what is the best month to get married?

As I mentioned above, there are a lot of things to consider, but typically if your wedding date is anywhere between May - October, you’ll generally have decent weather here in the PNW.
