Your Adventure Elopement Packing List

Planning any elopement can be overwhelming. But add in an adventure element, like a hike? And you risk going head first into stress-spiral territory! We’re talking lose-your-mind, pull-out-your-hair, pop-another-bottle territory. But don’t you worry—because I’m here to help!

This adventure elopement packing list will help you navigate the bumpy AF road that planning, prepping, and packing for a hiking elopement can be. Just read it, save it, and then go get hitched on that mountain stress-free!

12 Packing Essentials for Your Adventure Elopement

I’m gonna get right to it. Here’s what you need to pack:

#1 Water

You know what they say: The couple that hydrates together...migrates together? Okay that’s probably not right but pack. your. water. folks!!

#Food & Snacky Snacks

Even if you’re not planning to include a full meal stop during your hike, it’s always a good idea to bring some food with you. This way, you can keep energy levels up and avoid any and all hangry moments on your special day!

Also, #AmateurTip (I’m no hiking pro): I’ve found it’s better to take food breaks instead of eating while you walk, so you can digest things more easily and avoid uncomfortable cramps.

#3 Hiking Poles

Wedding days are long, and we’re not teenagers anymore! Hiking poles help with stability, leg fatigue, balance, and more. (‘Cause no one wants to be all scraped up on their elopement day.)

#4 Tissues & Blotting Papers

Sweat happens! Even on the easiest of hikes, on a warm summer day, you are all but guaranteed to get hot. And when you get hot, you get sweaty. Having some tissues on hand ensures that no one feels overly or uncomfortably sweaty, especially during photos!

#5 Makeup & Hair Supplies

Bring just enough so that you can re-apply, fix, or touch yourself up. I recommend the following:

  • Hairspray

  • Comb

  • Bobby pins/clips

  • Lipstick

  • MIRROR!

#6 Hiking Boots

Avoid using your elopement day to break in new boots or shoes. Wear your tried-and-trues OR do a few hikes in the boots you choose beforehand.

Oh, and please do not hike in fancy footwear. It’s just not safe. (But def bring them for the photos!)

#7 Blister Band-Aids

Nothing ruins a party like a blister. So all that stuff about not breaking in new shoes being said, blister Band-Aids are a must!

#8 Wipes

This is less than glamorous but...For those al fresco bathroom moments, nothing beats Surviveware Biodegradable Wet Wipes! (That was my best Price Is Right impression. Did I get it?)

#9 Warm Layers

Even on warmer days, it can get cold up in the mountains. Especially if we go for a sunset or evening hike. I like Merino wool because it’s light and warm, but if you can’t rock that for any reason, a down jacket is awesome, too. A waterproof jacket, toque, and gloves are also good ideas!

#10 Bug Spray & Sunscreen

Nothing worse than feeling crispy and being harassed by mosquitos so much that it takes you out of the moment! Bug repellent and sunscreen are essentials for a comfy, enjoyable day outside.

#11 Headlamp

We won’t plan to be out after dark, but just in case we get a little carried away enjoying the view or snapping sunset pics, a headlamp can be a huge saving grace!

#12 Backpack

...because you’re gonna need something comfy to help you carry all this dang stuff!
